8 caractéristiques des enseignants… solides

Via @FrançoisGuité, j’apprends que TeachThought publie aujourd’hui une autre liste de caractéristiques des bons enseignants… Mais celle-ci m’a interpellé parce qu’il y est question de “solidité”, de “force intérieure”, de “confiance en soi”, soit huit caractéristiques d’enseignants forts (strong). Bien qu’elles semblent s’adressées aux enseignants des niveaux élémentaire et secondaire, il nous semble tout à fait plausible de les transposer à l’enseignement supérieur:

Ils démontrent de la confiance en eux: “…[I]f you’re not confident that you’re in the right place when you’re teaching…you’re probably not.”
Ils ont du vécu: “…[E]ducators who have spent significant time and energy on alternate pursuits come to the profession with a deep understanding of where school fits into the bigger picture of life.”
Ils connaissent ce qui motive chaque étudiant: “…[T]he master teacher knows each of her students and helps them to contextualize the work they’re doing to allow the student to make a connection with something in his realm of interest.”
Ce sont des gens, pas des héros: “…[T]eachers who genuinely connect with students are the ones who aren’t afraid to show emotions in class, who can admit that they aren’t in fact the repository of all knowledge.”
Ils sont à l’aise avec les technologies: “In 2013, as a profession, we lose credibility every time we allow excuses like this [“I’m not very good with technology.”] to go unchallenged.”
Ils deviennent des modèles de prise de risque: si l’on veut encourager la prise de risques chez les étudiants, il faut en prendre quelques uns soi-même pour modéliser cette attitude.
Ils se préoccupent de ce qui est important: “They also understand that efficient and effective assessment means eliminating busy work while giving targeted, meaningful feedback and that engaging the students, connecting the material to their interests and passions, is the surest way to maximize learning.”
Ils ne se préoccupent pas trop de ce que pense les gestionnaires: “They understand that learning is not a neat and tidy activity and that adhering too closely to rules and routines can drain from students the natural curiosity, spontaneity and passion that they bring to school.”
